2016.04.20 - Using the Dishwasher

I have resisted using our dishwasher for a long while but just recently I’ve started using it and it’s all the fault of the solar panels we have in our garden.

Because the electricity people do not install an out-going meter in the fuse box, one that measures exactly how much electricity your panels have exported to the grid, they assume that you use half the generated power and pay you a fee for the rest.

The monitoring system I have installed myself shows that quite often we use much less than half the generated power so, in effect, we are giving the extra away to the electricity people for free.

I don’t like that.

So I try to find ways to use some of that energy so that the amount we give away for nothing is reduced. We don’t have a lot of laundry, so running the washing machine is not really an option nor the tumble drier neither, which leaves just the dishwasher.

Oh the trials and tribulations of having solar power.

That and being a complete skinflint, of course.
