2019.03.27 - Fiddly Cooking

Generally speaking, if a recipe has more than three herbs or spices I class it as fiddly and don't bother with it. I'm also a bit of a Philistine when it comes to food and most of the time you could leave out all of the herbs and spices and I wouldn't notice. So the last week or so has been challenging. Few of the recipes have less than three herbs or spices so I have had to prepare these fiddly meals regardless of my previous preferences.

I have found out why cooking on screen uses so many of those little dishes to show you what they are adding. I tried to put out the ingredients on the table and then measure everything out as I'm going along but when the recipe says 'add the remaining herbs and spices stirring continuously' and there are six of them, this gets fraught. So I have been measuring out the ingredients before I start cooking.

I run out of small things to put the ingredients into and I end up putting 1 teaspoon of spice on a 10" dinner plate!

So, I've just been online and bought a set of these:

They are just 3" across and should be fine for the majority of the ingredients that I now use and they are nice enough to be used for serving if needed.

I might just be getting the hang of this.
